The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) are one of the largest and most prestigious wine competitions in the world. Judged by the most authoritative wine experts, the DWWAs are internationally recognized for the reliability of their tasting and selection process.
The success of this competition is due to the unique selection process: the wines are judged on a regional basis and divided into groups according to the country and region of origin, color, variety, style, vintage and price level; this ensures a competition among peers.
The judges taste the wines individually: they know the region of origin, the style and the price range, but not the producer. Later they compare themselves on the judgments given and reach an agreement on the medal to be awarded to each wine.
The medals are divided into categories on the basis of a scale ranging from 0 to 100 points, the same that is also used by the Decanter and many other wine critics worldwide.
